If you have any option for a web-based database, or well-supported file sync system like iCloud or One Drive, use those instead. Transmit might allow you to mount remote connections as Finder volumes, but I don't know how well that will work. This is the same workflow you would get for any 3rd party tool anyway. Hopefully no one else has made any changes to the file since you made your copy. When you are happy with your changes, drag the file back to the network volume and overwrite the old version. Instead, drag the file to your local machine and work on a copy of the file. By this I mean never attempt to directly open a file on a network volume. My official recommendation is to never use network connections as network drives. Again, I was disappointed in the Mac's networking support, this time with SMB. I don't see how WebDAV has gotten any more popular since then.Ī few years after that, I even had an opportunity to use a super-fast, well-supported enterprise SMB network. Apple suggested I use SMB instead, but that is significantly more complicated to implement, so I dropped the idea. I discovered that there were serious bugs in Apple's WebDAV implementation and that Apple had no plans to fix them (that's what they told me). ![]() In my naïve confidence of all things Apple, and my love of XML, I used WebDAV as a local translation layer. Years ago I wrote an app that I hoped would eventually be a good competitor to Transmit. ![]() I would not recommend using Apple's WebDAV. I don't actually use it myself, so I can't comment on how well it works. Transmit ( ) is probably the most popular such tool. ![]() My official recommendation would be to use some 3rd party software for WebDAV. I'm left wondering whether it's good practice to simultaneously download multiple (large) files using the Safari browser.Īre we the only 3 peoples in the world using WebDAV with Mac M1? This was not obvious at first because although QuickTime indicated the full duration on its status bar, the encoded data frames from the last part of the video were missing in the (concurrently downloaded) file. Re-running the downloads one file at a time avoided these problems.Īn advisor at Apple Support concluded that the concurrent transfers had not run to completion (by comparing file sizes of the concurrent and single transfers). The other file played at first, but the video froze about 2/3 of the way through the file. However, one file would not play at all with QuickTime Player. When I returned, the downloads had seemed to complete successfully. I stepped away from the computer while the downloads were in progress. I attempted to download 2 large (~3GB) video files concurrently from Goggle Drive via it's web interface using the Safari browser (Version 14.1.2 bundled with Big Sur 11.5.2).
